Caring For Our Church Community

Trustees: This group is responsible for all property and equipment owned by the local church; they plan and set policies for its supervision, use, care and maintenance.

Staff-Parish Relations Committee: Works closely with the pastor and staff concerning their relationship with the congregation and the entire work of the church.

Outreach Committee:
Works to increase awareness and involvement in issues of the church and community relating to the vision of the church. Events include volunteering at the Greater Chicago Food Depository, Fair Trade Markets and Gay Pride events.

Education Committee:

Finance Committee:

Worship Committee:
Information to come.

Church Council:
Consists of the chairpersons from each committee previously mentioned, plus lay leaders and the pastor. They meet to discuss the activities of each committee, share concerns and promote the growth of the church.

Lay Leader:
The local church official elected by the charge conference, who serves as the primary lay representative of the local church.

Lay Speaker:
Serves a wide variety of functions, both in the church and in the community. Don't be mislead by the name-many lay speakers never speak from the pulpit.

Liturgist:
Volunteers to read the scripture or other readings and may assist with communion during Sunday worship service.

Fellowship Host:
Provides snacks and beverages for the congregation immediately after the Sunday worship service. Individuals, families, or groups may volunteer.

Offering Counters:
Two volunteers are needed each Sunday to count, record, and deposit the offering after the worship service.

Praise Band:
Helps to lead the Berry congregation in worship with contemporary arrangements of traditional hymns. All instruments and voices are welcome. Praise Band rehearses weekly.

Choir:
The choir is always open to new voices and meets each Sunday after the worship service.

Worship Host:
Welcomes visitors and members on Sunday morning by handing out bulletins and providing nametag materials.

Good Samaritan Bags:
Bags containing non-perishable food items and a list of local food pantries are given to people in need that come to the church requesting assistance. Volunteers are needed to assemble these bags and/or donate items.

Fund Raisers:
Volunteer to work on various aspects of fund raising, including coordination, advertising, promotion, setup, sales, cleaning up, etc.

Website:
Volunteers are needed to input information, including calendar, committee and ministry updates.

Church Office:
Extra hands can be used to complete office tasks, such as answering the phone, folding bulletins and newsletters.

Yard Work:
Our outdoor ministry provides opportunities for mowing, raking, weeding and planting.

Church Cleaning:
Volunteer to clean specific areas of the church, including the main office, kitchen, conference/Sunday School rooms, sanctuary, etc. Cleaning supplies will be provided or can be donated.

Teaching/Group Leadership:
Opportunities include teaching children, youth and adults, as well as leading small group studies.
